The National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), introduced in 1994, has long been celebrated as one of Ghana’s most prestigious academic competitions. The contest, which brings together senior high schools across the country, is renowned for showcasing brilliant young minds and igniting fierce school pride. Winning the NSMQ is not just about academic excellence—it is about securing bragging rights and preserving legacy.
Among all participating schools, Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School (PRESEC-Legon) stands tall as the most successful institution in the competition’s history. PRESEC has claimed the trophy eight times, making them the school with the highest number of championships. They also remain the only school to have achieved back-to-back victories on multiple occasions.
Following PRESEC is Prempeh College with five titles, while St Peter’s Senior High School (PERSCO) occupies the third position with three titles to their name.
In 2025, Mfantsipim School etched their name deeper into NSMQ history. Popularly called Botwe, the school successfully defended their 2024 title to clinch their fourth national trophy, securing a remarkable back-to-back triumph before an electrified crowd at the University of Cape Coast.
