NHIA pays GH¢281.66m claims to health facilities

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has disbursed GH¢281.66 million in claims payments to credentialed health facilities across Ghana for healthcare services provided to members of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

The latest payment, made on August 25 and 27, 2026, brings the total value of claims paid by the NHIA since the beginning of the year to GH¢1.64 billion.

The GH¢281,658,680.79 payment was distributed among public, private, and mission health facilities as the Authority continues efforts to ensure healthcare providers receive timely reimbursement for services rendered to NHIS members.

Public facilities receive the largest share.

Public health facilities received the largest portion of the latest disbursement, taking GH¢122,734,138.46, representing 43.58% of the total payment.

Private health facilities received GH¢104,504,883.03, accounting for 37.1%, while mission health facilities received GH¢54,419,659.30, representing 19.32%.

The payments are expected to support healthcare facilities in maintaining the supplies, medicines, and other resources needed to provide uninterrupted services to NHIS members.

NHIA explains the importance of timely claims payments.

NHIA Chief Executive, Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, said the Authority remains committed to ensuring that recredentialed health facilities are paid promptly after their claims have been reviewed and approved.

According to him, timely reimbursement is essential to help healthcare providers maintain adequate supplies and resources for quality service delivery.

“We know the facilities need the payment to procure consumables to enable them to provide quality care to our members, and it is for this reason we ensure that as soon as their claims have been vetted, we promptly pay them,” Dr. Bampoe said.

The NHIA said the timely reimbursement of claims forms part of its broader efforts to strengthen healthcare financing in Ghana and support continuous service delivery under the National Health Insurance Scheme.

The Authority's latest disbursement is therefore expected to ease financial pressures on credentialed facilities while supporting the delivery of healthcare services to NHIS members across the country.
