According to a statement signed by the Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the incident occurred on Sunday, August 31, 2025, when the teenager was shot by an unidentified assailant while engaged in galamsey activities.

“Preliminary investigations suggest that the victim was shot from a nearby bush, forcing other miners at the site to flee,” the police statement indicated.
