Students of the University of Ghana have expressed strong outrage following a significant increase in hostel facility user fees at Pent Hall for the 2025/2026 academic year.

New Pent Hall Fees Spark Outrage

Under the revised pricing, a four-in-a-room accommodation now costs GHS 7,492, while a single room is priced as high as GHS 40,329.

The increase has been described by many students as excessive and unaffordable, with some arguing that the new charges are higher than their academic user fees.

    Students Raise Concerns Over Affordability

Several students have taken to social media to describe the new fees as "outrageous", questioning the justification for such a steep increment.

Others compared Pent Hall rates to private hostels, including so-called diaspora halls, claiming those facilities offer better comfort at more competitive prices.

Some also raised concerns that essential services, including utilities such as electricity, are not fully covered despite the substantial increase.

    Concerns Over Student Welfare

The development has triggered broader discussions about student welfare and accommodation accessibility on campus, with many warning that the situation could worsen housing pressure at the university.

Some students say they may be forced to move off-campus in search of more affordable housing, despite concerns about security risks and transportation costs.

As of now, the management of Pent Hall has not issued an official response to the concerns raised by students.
