The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced emergency maintenance works expected to disrupt electricity supply in parts of Accra, Tema and the Volta Region from Monday, November 2, to Friday, November 6, 2026.

The planned exercise follows multiple technical faults that have affected power supply in parts of the country, particularly within ECG's electricity distribution network.

In a notice published on its official X account, the power distributor said the maintenance exercise would involve urgent repairs and infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving electricity supply and preventing further disruptions.

According to ECG, some affected communities will experience power interruptions between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., while other locations will have outages from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The company noted that maintenance schedules could vary depending on the affected locations and the nature of the technical work required.

ECG Explains Reason for Planned Power Outages

ECG explained that the temporary interruptions are necessary to allow engineers to undertake critical maintenance and upgrade works across sections of its distribution network.

The exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to address technical challenges, strengthen electricity infrastructure and improve the reliability of power supply to residential and commercial customers.

The company has apologised to customers for the inconvenience and urged residents and businesses in affected communities to take note of the announced schedules.

Ghana Intensifies Efforts to Strengthen Electricity Supply

The latest maintenance announcement comes amid growing efforts to strengthen Ghana's electricity generation and distribution capacity in response to rising power demand.

President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans for a 1,200-megawatt gas-fired power plant, which is expected to become Ghana's largest single power generation facility if completed as proposed.

Ghana has also secured a commitment from Russia to collaborate on plans for a proposed 2,000-megawatt nuclear power plant aimed at expanding the country's electricity generation capacity and supporting industrial development.

The proposed investments, alongside ongoing transformer upgrades and distribution network improvements, form part of broader efforts to strengthen the country's energy infrastructure.

Businesses and Households Advised to Prepare

The scheduled ECG maintenance works are expected to affect households, businesses and institutions that rely on uninterrupted electricity during normal working hours.

Companies operating in affected communities may need to make alternative arrangements to minimise disruptions to their daily activities.

ECG has urged customers to take note of the maintenance timetable and has expressed regret over any inconvenience caused.
