Como score 9 goals to make Champions League history against Lens

Como produced one of the most remarkable performances in UEFA Champions League history after thrashing RC Lens 9-1 at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis.

The Italian side became only the second team in Champions League history to score nine goals in a single match, underlining their growing reputation as one of Europe's most exciting teams.

The emphatic victory also extended Como's winning run to six consecutive matches in all competitions and strengthened their hopes of securing a place in the competition's top eight.

Lens, who had managed just one victory in their opening three matches, struggled to cope with Como's attacking quality throughout the encounter.

How to take control with dominant first-half display

Lens created the first notable opportunity through Florian Thauvin, whose powerful effort was comfortably dealt with by goalkeeper Jean Butez.

However, Como took the lead inside the opening 10 minutes. Maximo Perrone's header from a corner fell into the path of Anastasios Douvikas, who finished from close range.

The hosts attempted to respond, with Matthieu Udol heading over the crossbar, but Como continued to threaten whenever they moved forward.

Robin Risser produced an important save to deny Nico Paz before Como doubled their advantage through Douvikas.

Paz delivered an excellent ball into the penalty area for Alex Valle, whose header across goal allowed Douvikas to score after the ball struck the post.

Como extended their lead before half-time when Paz finished a quick attacking move with a powerful strike into the roof of the net, leaving Lens with a difficult task after the break.

Como scores six more as Lens suffer humiliating defeat.

Como showed no intention of slowing down after the restart, adding a fourth goal within two minutes of the second half.

Paz once again provided the creativity, sending a perfectly timed pass into the path of Lucas Da Cunha, who finished first-time beyond Risser.

The visitors continued their relentless attacking display, with Marc-Oliver Kempf heading in another goal before Douvikas completed his hat-trick by converting another excellent pass from Paz.

Como was now scoring almost at will, and substitute Mattia Liberali added another after driving into the penalty area and finishing at Risser's near post.

Lens briefly gave their supporters something to celebrate when Ruben Aguilar struck a well-taken volley to reduce the deficit.

However, Como responded with two more goals. Substitute Martin Baturina finished one-on-one against Risser before Matteo Papacccioli added the ninth in stoppage time.

The final whistle confirmed a remarkable 9-1 victory for Cesc Fabregas' side, who delivered a performance that will be remembered as a historic moment in the club's European campaign.

Como sends a strong Champions League message

The result represents a major statement from Como as they continue their impressive maiden Champions League campaign.

Their attacking quality, movement, and ability to create scoring opportunities proved too much for Lens, who will need to respond quickly after suffering such a heavy defeat.

For Como, the victory extends their winning streak to six matches across all competitions and provides a significant boost to their ambitions of finishing among the Champions League's top eight teams.

Lens, meanwhile, must regroup ahead of their Ligue 1 meeting with Olympique de Marseille on Sunday.
