The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced scheduled power outages in parts of the Central, Greater Accra, Tema, and Volta regions from Monday, October 26, to Friday, October 30, 2026, to undertake urgent maintenance and upgrade works.

The exercise is expected to affect several communities, with power interruptions scheduled mainly between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. in some locations. Other areas will experience outages from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

In a notice published on its official X account, ECG explained that the maintenance works follow multiple technical faults that have disrupted electricity supply in parts of its distribution network.

The company said the exercise would allow engineers to carry out urgent repairs and system upgrades to improve the reliability of electricity supply and reduce the risk of further disruptions.

ECG has apologized to customers for the inconvenience the planned outages may cause, particularly to households, businesses, and institutions that rely on a stable electricity supply during working hours.

Why ECG is undertaking the maintenance works

The scheduled exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to address faults and improve the performance of Ghana’s electricity distribution infrastructure.

Growing electricity demand and pressure on distribution networks have made regular maintenance and infrastructure upgrades important for reducing unexpected outages and improving service delivery.

The government has also announced plans for a 1,200-megawatt gas-fired power plant, which is intended to expand Ghana’s electricity generation capacity. The proposed facility is expected to become the country’s largest single power plant if completed as planned.

However, additional generation capacity and improvements to the distribution network serve different purposes. While new power plants increase the electricity available for supply, maintenance of distribution infrastructure helps ensure that electricity reaches consumers reliably.

ECG has urged affected customers to take note of the scheduled maintenance periods. The specific communities and their respective outage times are outlined in the schedule provided by the company.
